Who is Mehmet Akpınar, PhD?

I was born on June 25, 1992 — a Thursday I can’t quite say has been my lucky day — in Kadıköy, Istanbul.
Thanks to my father’s small business at Perşembe Pazarı, I stepped into real life, into the world of bargaining and hard work, at the age of five.
For me, Perşembe Pazarı was more than a school — it taught me what it means to become a person of character.

I graduated from Kadıköy Kemal Atatürk High School, a name I always mention with pride.
Later, I completed five different university programs across various disciplines, which shaped my way of thinking.
My career path has since evolved through both academia and consulting.

I’ve always been — and will always remain — a student.
Today, I’m someone who consults for leading brands in Turkey and abroad, builds digital marketing systems, lectures at universities around the world, and continues to learn with genuine passion.

How did you get into marketing?

I first encountered marketing in my third year at university.
Amid all the economics lectures, the marketing class felt like an oasis in the desert.
There was no ceteris paribus, no homo economicus detached from reality — only real people, real markets, and real decisions.

After that first class, I knew exactly which path I wanted to follow.
Since that day, marketing has never been just a profession for me — it has become a way of thinking and a way of life.

What is your life motto?

“A simple person doing their best is better than a clever one doing nothing.”

How did your consulting journey begin?

At the beginning of my marketing career, my goal was clear: to become a consultant.
Back then, I closely followed the writings of Temel Aksoy, whose way of thinking deeply inspired me.
I’ve always believed one thing in life: if you are the right kind of person, your wishes come true at the right time.

In the early years of my career, I gained experience by working with small startups.
Over time, I developed my own consulting approach in the fields of marketing, CRM, and strategy.
Today, I work with brands from various industries and contribute to their digital transformation journeys through the projects we carry out with the Fikirhane team.

What kind of projects do you consult on?

Today, I work on projects that help brands achieve sustainable growth in the digital world.
I analyze your brand’s goals, customer journey, and digital touchpoints — then build a data-driven CRM system that leaves nothing to chance.

My goal is not just to make brands visible, but to help them grow in measurable ways.
For me, every project is an opportunity to build a new system, develop a new strategy, and shape the future of a brand.

How much experience do you have?

If I count my apprenticeship days at Perşembe Pazarı, I’ve been working for as long as I can remember.
In the fields of digital marketing, CRM, and brand management, I have over 10 years of professional experience.

During this time, I’ve completed two master’s degrees and a PhD, founded a startup, and led numerous projects with leading brands.
Working, creating, and achieving have always been my greatest sources of happiness.

What are you working on today?

Today, I provide digital marketing and CRM consulting for brands.
My main goal and motivation is to help companies grow in measurable and sustainable ways.

I collaborate with firms from both Turkey and abroad, managing projects together with international teams.
Each project — and every challenge — pushes me outside my comfort zone and drives me to learn something new.

In addition, as the founder of Content Faktory, I lead content and digital strategy projects for various brands and guide my team through every stage of the creative process.

What are the non-negotiables in your daily routine?

There’s no weekday–weekend distinction in my life — I’m one of those who believe that work has no fixed time or place.

I usually start my day around 6:00 a.m.
Exercise, black coffee, and a short planning session are indispensable parts of my morning.

I love discovering new places — I’ve visited more than 75 cities across Europe so far and add a few more every year.

I stay away from chaotic, unstructured work habits; I’m someone who starts like a Turk and finishes like a German — disciplined and determined until the end.

What has academic life contributed to your consulting career?

Academia taught me how to research, think deeply, and make data-driven decisions.
But it also showed me how disconnected the academic world can sometimes be from real business life.

I’ve built a bridge between these two worlds.
Today, in consulting, I bring theory and practice together, combining systematic thinking with creative solutions in every project.

How did your academic journey begin?

My academic journey began at Marmara University, where I studied Economics.
I later earned master’s degrees in Sports Management and Marketing, and completed my PhD in Marketing with a dissertation focused on social media.

One of the turning points in my life was my time at the University of Passau, where I took courses in marketing, management, and leadership.

This small city — connecting Germany and Austria and home to one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, in my opinion — completely changed the way I see life.
